Tlingit Model Totem Pole
Early 20th century
15 inches (height).
This totem is a model of the famous totem know as the “Totem of Kitleen” erected in 1899. The totem features man in the glacier at
the top, frog, raven and a bear at the base. Abalone inset eyes, original painted black surface and inlays. There was a trend in the
early 20th century for the Tlingit carvers to paint some of their totems black to imitate the look of argillite. This piece is beautifully
carved with open work and crisp definition.
