Extraordinary Two-Drawer Stand
Georgia, ca, 1825
29 1/2 inches (height), 17 1/2 inches (case width & depth), 18 ½ inches (width of top), 18 inches (depth of top). Primary wood: Walnut, Secondary wood: Southern Yellow Pine.
Invected corner inlay on drawer fronts and center section between drawers, cut-out skirt under bottom drawer, divided interior on bottom drawer, extremely well proportioned and interesting turned legs, beaded molding around drawers, original locks, old refinish with nice mellow wood color. Old small unobtrusive walnut patches to cover the nail holes where top is attached to base, old brasses are probably the second set and appear to be the exact type and size that were originally on the stand.
“From Newnan, Georgia area.” It’s quite rare that such extraordinary pieces of Southern furniture, such as this piece, come available on the market.
