Rat-Tailed Catawba Indianware Vase,
Attr. Hilton Pottery, Early 20th century
7 inches (height), 9 inches (width from handle to handle). Interior alkaline glaze has a typical high glass content.
There is a tight hairline from the top rim to the handle, and a firing separation on one handle; it is not a crack, but a firing separation that occurred during the drying and firing process. The piece looks very attractive and is a very scarce piece of pottery.
